What Pagerank Means for Search Engines

Pagerank gxg

We often encounter the concept of Search Engine Optimization (SEO), or in Greek, βελτιστοποίηση για τις μηχανές αναζήτησης. Pagerank is a numerical value that represents how important, significant, and strong a website is on the internet, according to the Google search engine.

Pagerank significantly affects, along with some additional factors, the ranking in search results. Google uses Pagerank to evaluate the strength of a website on the internet, which influences the search results. When a website has a Pagerank of 5 or higher, it usually appears in the top positions of Google’s results for its relevant keywords. To determine and calculate Pagerank, Google uses complex algorithms with millions of variables and terms, and the calculation is done through unbiased automated methods, not by any human factor.

One of the evaluations is, for example, the linking of Website A to Website B, or in other words, how many references a website has on the internet. For instance, if the references and votes for a website come from important websites with high significance and high Pagerank, the value assigned is even greater, so we benefit more.

The ranking scale that Google uses for Pagerank is from 1 to 10 (PR1 – PR10). The higher the Pagerank a website has, the higher its position in the ranking on the first page of search results (SERP)*. Of course, Pagerank is not the only factor Google uses to rank a website, but it is the most important.

*SERP: the results displayed by Google for the keywords we have searched for.
